Sadler costs taxpayers $147K to stop low cost housing near him | Eastern North Carolina Now

. . . but is pushing 40 section 8 low cost apartments downtown

ENCNow

Mayor Sadler has spent $147, 715 of city taxpayers money fighting to stop a low cost housing project in his own personal back yard, but he is now quietly pushing a 40 unit low cost housing project downtown that would adversely impact our central business district.

The Powell Place low cost housing project was slated to be built in close proximity to Mayor Donald Sadler's own personal residence.  He abused powers of city government to try to thwart it.  That led to a lawsuit by the developers, which was recently settled.  The cost to city taxpayers of Sadler's scheme to shield his own private property was $97,715 for attorney fees and a $50,000 settlement the city paid out to the developers.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sadler is quietly pushing a scheme to put 40 Section 8 low cost housing units in the old Hotel Louise downtown, which would adversely impact the revival of our central business district.

That isn't all.  The Sadler regime also abused city power against another developer and that has also spawned a lawsuit which has cost city taxpayers over $25,000 in legal fees already.

Taxpayers cannot afford Donald Sadler as mayor.

Is a low income complex going to hurt a neighborhood? We have a middle class black man as our mayor and he sure seems to think so when he spends $147.000 of our tax money to keep them OUT of HIS neighborhood. Maybe it would be better if the Housing Authority would drug test its tenants and Section 8 recipients regularly to help get a better quality of tenant.

And as noted below, there is a real danger of the Biden regime deciding to pack them with illegal aliens.

But for downtown, there is another huge problem. With the elimination of parking on one side of Main Street, there is a parking shortage downtown. Any residential development is just going to make that worse. A more upscale development would at least have much larger units and fewer of them and therefore less parking congestion. If customers of downtown businesses cannot find a place to park, they will not do business there.

The 147,000 is nothing compared to the transfer of $580,000 to the Housing Authority his wife heads, the additional $50,000 settlement and the pending lawsuits the mayor has triggered to keep poor people and affordable housing away from his house. His martini sipping supporters are trying to rally around him but I sense we have a shot to defeat his slate of recruits for City Council and Sadler himself.

I'm appalled by the legal costs to taxpayers if accurate but not clear how low income housing in Hotel Louise will adversely affect the revival of the downtown business district.

Mayor Sadler should be compelled to pay this money back to the city, and Richard Brooks should have to reimburse the city for the money he received on that corrupt scheme to buy his two substandard lots. That new lawsuit needs to be settled before it costs taxpayers even more.

Those low cost housing units Sadler wants downtown may be worse than you think. The Biden regime is looking for places like that to stuff the illegal alien migrants they are letting across the border. Sadler may make downtown Washington, NC like current downtown New York City on being overrun with illegal aliens.

Mayor Sadler wants to put low cost housing downtown after spending over a hundred thousand dollars of taxpayers money to keep it out of his own neighborhood. What a self serving, and downtown destroying corrupt politician. I wonder if "pro business" candidate Ellen Brabo will keep playing footsies with Sadler when he is preparing to launch a major attack to damage our downtown business district? And what about Mohammed, the owner of the Mulberrry House who has been such a big supporter of Sadler? Sadler is gunning to wreck his business by causing a deterioration in downtown safety. Something Sadler went ballistic to keep out of his own neighborhood, he now wants to place downtown.

So this is how Sadler uses that 12% tax increase he imposed on us (along with Richard Brooks, Lou Hodges, and Mike Renn)? To keep a low cost development away from his own neighborhood? Shame on him! Taxpayers need to remove him from office Novermber 7.
