Now it is New Hampshire considering secession from the federal union | Eastern NC Now

follows efforts in Texas, Alaska, Vermont, and Idaho

A fifth state has joined the ranks of those who have recently been considering secession from the union.  This time it is the "Live Free or Die" state of New Hampshire.  Two bills have been filed in the state legislature by two differnt state representatives.  One would create a Secession Study Committee, and the other would amend the state Constitution to provide for New Hampshire seceding from the union if the federal debt reached $40 Trillion (it is now $33 Trillion).

The issue of secession has also recently been mooted in Alaska, Texas, Idaho, and Vermont.   New Hampshire seriously considered secession once before, along with some other New England states during the War of 1812.

Secession has also gotten a lot of attention in the last couple of years in western Canada, where the WEXIT (western exit) movement has received support in the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and somewhat in British Columbia.  Canada has a predecent set in Quebec a few decades ago for allowing a province to hold a binding referendum on secession.  The province of Alberta has thrown down the gaunlet by passing the Alberta Sovereignty Act which alllows the provincial legislature to nullify any Canadian federal laws they do not agree with and also allows local governments throughout the province to also nullify any federal laws they disagree with.  Trudeau threatened to take Alberta to court over the act, but Alberta's prime minster reminded him that Alberta held the trump card of a secession referendum.
