Mrs. Yvonne Carney Edwards, age 81, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Monday November 27, 2023, at her home with family by her side.

    Mrs. Yvonne Carney Edwards, age 81, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Monday November 27, 2023, at her home with family by her side.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday November 30, 2023, at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Chocowinity. The service will be officiated by Pastor Joe Ange. A burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Jacob Edwards, Zachary Paramore, Jameson Edwards, Daniel Baker, Walt Riley, and Donnie Edwards will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church on Thursday.

    Mrs. Edwards was born in Calloway County, KY on September 21, 1942, daughter of the late Albert Leon Carney and the late Dysie Belle Arnold Carney Boyd. She was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and continued her education at Beaufort County Community College. Her lovely baby blue eyes caught the attention of Julius Dupree "J.D." Edwards and they were married on April 2, 1961. She was a legal secretary and worked with Mayo & Mayo in Washington and retired in 1998, the same year her husband retired from PCS Phosphate in Aurora. She loved crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, fishing, and listening to bluegrass gospel music, especially when her husband was playing. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Chocowinity where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and praised her Lord and Savior by singing in the church choir.

    Surviving along with her husband: J.D. of the home are her children: Donna Carawan and her husband Joe of Chocowinity, John Edwards and his wife Shelia of Chocowinity, and Leigh Ann Baker and her husband Wayne of Chocowinity; sisters: Vera Carney Jones of North Fort Shores, FL, Audrey Carney Walker of Washington, Betsy Carney Toler of Washington, and Jessie Carney Brooks of Washington; grandchildren: Jacob Edwards of Chocowinity, Zachary Paramore and his wife Taylor of New Bern, Kayla Riley and her husband Walt of Cove City, Jameson Edwards of Chocowinity, and Daniel Baker of Chocowinity. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: G.W. Walker and Dan Brooks and Clifton Toler.

    In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern NC Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.

    The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Susan Adams and Angie Ramsey of Gentiva Hospice for the care and love of our beloved wife and mother.
