Roberta L. Slaughter Hodges | Eastern NC Now

    Roberta L. Slaughter Hodges, age 94, resident of Washington passed from this life into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Ridgewood Manor.

    Mrs. Hodges was born June 16, 1929, in Craven County to Elva and Norman Slaughter. She attended and graduated from Chocowinity High School.

    On November 20, 1949 she married Raymond Hodges and they were married 55 years. She was a homemaker and most often always taking care of others, including her grandchildren.

    She was one of the original members of First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, and as long as she could, faithfully attended and served. She sent many cards of love and encouragement through the years.

    Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dalton and wife Katrina, son Arthur of Newport, NC, daughter Sandra Buck of Washington, and sister Mildred Edwards of Chocowinity. She had five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond on November 16, 2004, and her sister Joyce Daniels on March 4, 2023.

    Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at First Free Will Baptist, officiated by Darren Walker. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour at First Free Will Baptist Church and other times at 1609 Cherry Road, Washington.
