The conservative minority has had a plan in front of the Beaufort County School Board for months on refoming the curriculum adoption process to make it more transparent, have more public input, and have more board input. The board majority, the seat warmers who are little more than rubber stamps for the lbieral superintendant Cheeseman, however, keep stalling in one way or another. Parts of the plan were changed to meet some of their objections but they keep stalling.
At present, the curriculum process is tightly controlled by the superintendant, and the elected school board is expected to rubber stamp whatever is put before them at the very last minute of the process. This is spite of state law giving the elected school board the authority to determine what the curriculum will be.
At the last school board meeting, two of the superintendant's flunkies on the board whined about the new suggestion of a school board member sitting on the curriculum committee, as is done in many other counties. That would counter the superintenant's ability to intimidate the curriculum committee.
The issue came up after the superintendant's curriculum committee proposed a woke social studies curriculum and a math curriculum that was not only woke but also based on the faield Common Core math project. The members whining about more board and public input say they want to rely on the school central office's bureaucrat who is in charge of curriculum, but that official has repeated given false information to the school board on curriculum. On the social studies curriculum, he falsely told the school board that the curriculum he wanted "was the only one approved by the state DPI". On the math curriculum, he initially told the school board that it was "not Common Core" only to have to reverse himself after members did their own research and found out that it was. Who in their right mind would want to rely on someone like that?
The real test will come at election time. We need more school board members who will do their jobs instead of just being flunkies for a liberal superintendant. We need elected representatives of the public who understand that the superintendant is their employee, not their boss. Voters need to stop the tail from wagging the dog, which is what we have now on our school board.

When this board wants something, they fast track it. When they don't, they drag it out and pick it apart until they kill it. Clearly, this board does not want more transparency. Clearly, this board does not want more public input. Clearly, this board does not want more board input. This board does not even want to fulfil their own lawful responsibility to determine what the curriculum will be in Beaufort County.

I think they do. What you personally think may not be all that important, but the general public is important to all elected officials?

If it wasn't obvious well before now, it certainly is now. The majority of this board is not committed at all to transparency. This board majority does not care what the community thinks unless it is a segment of the public parroting them - so much for real diversity. They are perfectly content playing the role of big shot/cheerleader brown nosers.
Think I'll call my rep and ask him why he tries to meet those fellows half-way. Do they ever return the favor? |

Stopping the woke curriculum is the main reason we need a conservative school board, something we do NOT have right now. Florida is fighting the woke curriculum statewide with great success but most fights are on a county by county basis. It is why parents all over the country are voting out school board members who suck up to the liberal education establishment. Parents do not want school board members who brown nose the bureaucrats. Our candidate for governor, Mark Robinson, has fought these same curriculum battles on the state school board, as has State Treasurer Dale Folwell.
