Skin merchants | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's Note: Jim Bispo's weekly column appears in the Beaufort Observer.

We frequently hear that the inmates have taken over the asylum. It would now seem that the skin merchants have taken over the Government. At least the Justice Department. (Justice??)

Al Sharpton (likely financed by Move-On dot org), Jesse Jackson (likely financed by everyone who doesn't want to be "badmouthed" or boycotted by his group), and others go online and gather a ton of signatures demanding "justice" for Trayvon Martin. Well actually, it's probably not so much for justice as it is for punishing the White Hispanic who was acquitted of the 2nd degree murder with which he was charged. Reportedly the original charges were brought to placate the protestors in Sanford FL aided and abetted by the mainstream media. In their minds arrest and conviction are apparently synonymous. What more could you expect from folks who listen to, and believe, the drivel that is preached by Al Sharpton and his ilk.??

But wait.. White Hispanic?? What in the world is that?? Oh, only one parent is Hispanic. What do you suppose that makes our Prez?? Only one of his parents is black. Does that make him a White African-American?? Probably not.. White Hispanic was invented especially for Mr Zimmerman by the mainstream press. Would that be the same group that edited the 911 call tape to make one of Mr. Zimmerman's replies to the 911 Operator sound like he was racially profiling the teen age Martin?? It would. Unfortunately (for them) it was exposed as a hoax.

We have a Justice Department which looks the other way when the New Black Panthers stand in front of a voting place brandishing night sticks and intimidating voters. The Attorney General (Eric Holder) doesn't seem to be able to find time to answer most of the Congressional mail he gets asking for information on things like Gun Walking, Behghazi, the Verizon "issue", the James Rosen "issue", the IRS scandal, and a lot of other equally unsavory things which the DoJ seems to ignore (including laws it does not like). Holder's willingness to ignore things he doesn't like is not limited to legislation. It also extends to Supreme Court rulings he doesn't like. Wow!! Talk about chutzpah.. The Prez lumps the foregoing (except for Holder sticking his finger in the eye of the SCOTUS) into a single bundle and calls it a Republican created "distraction". Everything else not withstanding, it will be interesting to see how the Anointed One turns Holder's latest behavior into yet another (Republican) "distraction". The AG can't answer legitimate Congressional questions, but he does seem to be able to find time to pursue trying to dredge up enough "civil rights" violations to be able to drag the acquitted Mr. Zimmerman back into court on Federal charges. And, as if that isn't enough, he seems to see fit to try an "end run" around the Supreme Court and their "Voting Rights Act" decision. What do you suppose ever happened to the Government "of the people, by the people, for the people"?? And what do you think ever happened to the Separation of Powers built into our Constitution?? It certainly is not easy to find any of them in the Anointed One's Administration (in general) and the Eric Holder Justice Department (in particular). Wow!!!

And what about those pictures?? Trayvon is typically shown as a fourteen year old clean cut - almost cherubic - young lad. How could anyone possibly do violence to such a nice looking lad, much less kill him?? Do you suppose they could have been intended to create that impression?? Why do you suppose there were no pictures of a nearly "full grown" 17 year old standing 6' 2" tall and weighing on the order of 175# (as compared to George Zimmerman standing 5' 7" tall and weighing on the order of 185#)??

It's a generation later but where was the outrage when OJ was acquitted?? Where were the demands for "justice" for Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman?? There were no sit-ins, no "justice" rallies, no mob scenes in the streets. Well, actually there were mob scenes in the streets, but they were in celebration of the verdict. And, as I recall, it seemed that most of the skin merchants were with the celebrants in the streets following the OJ acquittal..

In his seemingly unscripted conversation with the press at the White House the other day one of the things the Prez wondered was what would have happened if Trayvon Martin had been white. Well, for one thing Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would have stayed home and there would have been no one (including the Anointed One) trying to turn a local situation into a national uprising.

But, since we don't seem to be able to keep the likes of Sharpton and Jackson at home, here's a cost saving idea to think about. How about doing away with the justice system as we know it and turning it over to Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or perhaps William Barber after he gets to be a little better known. We could save a lot on detectives, prosecuting attorneys, judges, juries, fancy court houses and the like (and surely prisons also). Just hand the decision making over to the skin merchants and all vestige of racial discrimination will surely vanish, and with it the Civil Rights Industry so ably husbanded by the likes of Sharpton, Jackson, Barber, and a host of others.. Or will it??.

I rather doubt that it would happen. If it did, the skin merchants (like Jackson, Sharpton, Barber and their ilk) would be out of a job. Some hope. None of them would ever let that happen.

We hear the Prez telling us that he (in an earlier life) heard car doors being locked as he walked down the street toward them. He has been "followed" as he walked through stores. And it is surely easy to place the blame for that type of behavior. Unfortunately the folks (presumably all - or mostly - white) who do those things are reacting to a world they see almost every night on the TV news (no matter which channel they watch). The folks the "door lockers" and retail security folks are avoiding are those whose pictures turn up almost every evening in the "Crime Stopper" segments of the evening TV news.

Guess the ethnicity of most of those folks who are being pursued or arrested for all manner of transgressions. So why wouldn't you lock your car when one of "those folks" came walking down the street toward you?? Reportedly (according to the Prez himself) even his grandmother would cross the street to avoid passing a black on the sidewalk. And that in Hawaii, the great ethnic mixing bowl.

You want to stop the "door locking" and the "following"; change the stereotype. That is not something the government can do. It is something that each family (whether intact or "broken"; whether white or black) must do.

    D'ya think??
