NC narrowly avoids far left state Supreme Court Justice in election | Eastern North Carolina Now

we dodged the Allison Riggs bullet

ENCNow

By less than 10,000 votes, North Carolina dodged a far left bullet in our Supreme Court race.  Court of Appeals Judge Jefferson Griffin, a solid no-nonsense conservative won the seat over far left Allison Riggs.  Riggs entire legal career had been with the extreme left Southern Coalition for Social Justice out of Durham before she got a political appointment from Roy Cooper as a judge.  "Social justice" is a far left euphemism for "socialism".  Riggs had advanced to the role of co-execotive durectir if that far left organization.

During the campaign, Riggs had made promises to make left wing rulings on issues that may come before the court.  That is a violation of the NC Code of Judicial Conduct, and a formal complaint has been filed with the NC Judicial Standards Commission by an attorney from Johnston County who used to be a State Senator.

A far left dark money group  that called itself "NC Families First" which was funded by among others, the Soros organization, and the far left national teachers unions, put out a blizzard of mailers attacking Judge Griffin and grossly misrepresenting some of his rulings.  They also tried to tie him to Mark Robinson even though neither he himself nor his campaign ever had anything actually to do with Robinson.

The race is almost certainly headed to a recount.  The sad thing is that Cooper will have the ability to appoint a new judge to Griffin's Court of Appeals seat, and he will probably appoint Riggs, leaving that far left radical still embedded in our court system.  If he does that voters will have the opportunity to take her out in 2026.

North Carolina also avoided another far left candidate by a much large margin in the Commssioner of Labor race where solid conservative Luke Farley, an expert in labor law defeated far left Braxton Winston, who had been one of the ringleaders of race riots in Charlotte and has a record of arrests by the Charlotte police.

Unfortunately, extreme left radical Mo Green was elected as Superintendant of Public Instruction which is a clear and present danger to education in our state.  The far left Soros-affiliated "NC Families First" also put out a blizzard of dishonest mailers against conservative Republican Michele Morrow, which also tried to tie her to  Mark Robinson.  That was even more absurd since Robinson had endorsed Morrow's primary opponent and avoided supporting her on the campaign trail.

Good point: I understand the BC GOP worked for at least one Democrat in a race with a Republican candidate. The good news is, she won anyway.

Agree entirely. The NC GOP did not have the backs of Bishop and Morrow. How much you want to bet the NC GOP would have had the backs of slime like Tillis and Moore.

I hear you, Van Zant. Mo Green as superintendant of public instruction is like having Lenin in that position. Green is of the extreme left. NCGOP was totally inept in standing up for our conservative Council of State candidates like Dan Bishop and Michele Morrow. NCGOP were useless. The conservatives who won like Luke Farley and Mike Causey did so on their own. Two of the "Republicans" elected might as well be Dmeocrats - Briner and Boliek. Last election, Briner was registered Unaffiliated and took a Democrat primary ballot, and he works for gun control boss Michael Bloomberg. His good buddy and ally Boliek is not much better. With "Republicans" like Briner and Boliek, who even needs Democrats?

We indeed dodged a bullet in the NC Supreme Court race. We didn't dodge the bullet in the Superintendent of Public Instruction race. I largely blame the absolutely inept NC GOP for that. In fact, in a year where NC was highly motivated to vote for Trump in the presidential race, I completely blame the NC GOP for our abysmal showing in the Council of State races. They do not deserve my support.
