Susan Lewis, a 74 year old widow living alone in Charlotte, NC had a window cracked by high winds from Hurricane Helene.  She applied to FEMA for the $200 it would cost to fix the window.  FEMA refused to pay it, and instead offered to put her up in a hotel for one month, which would have cost thousands of taxpayer dollars,
