GOP will control state House of Representatives in Tim Walz' Minnesota | Eastern NC Now

Court awards one disputed seat to Republcians, may award another

ENCNow

A GOP victory in court in one of two disputed Minnestota legislative districts has handed Republicans control of the Minnesota House of Representatives.  This is the home state of failed Democrat vice presidential candidate Tim Walz who serves as governor.  An expected ruling in a second contested district could give Republicans another seat to add to their majority.

In the case that has been decided, the court ruled that the Democrat candidate was not a genuine resident of the district he ran in, so he was disqualified, leaving the Republican candidate as the winner.  The other district involves a race decided by 14 votes where election officials have admitted that they "inadvertantly" threw away more mail-in absentee ballots than that.  That race is expected to go to a new election.
