Second female Florida Democrat legislator switchs to Republican this month | Eastern NC Now

Rep. Hillary Cassell of Broward County now a Republican

ENCNow

A second Democrat state legislator in Florida has crossed the aisle, abandoning the Democrat Party to join the Republican Party.  State Rep. Hillary Cassell, a Jewish woman who represents part of Broward County has announced she is changing her registration to Republican and joining the GOP legislative caucus.  Rep. Cassell, an attorney, is one of the legislature's most knowledgable members on property insurance issues.

Earlier this month State Rep. Susan Valdes of Hillsborough County, a Hispanic woman, abandoned the Demcrats and joined the GOP.  The two party switches bring the Republican caucus up to 87 members in the 120 member state House.

"I have been increasingly troubled by the Democratic Party's failure to support Israel and its willingness to tolerate extreme progressive voices that justify or condone acts of terrorism," Rep. Cassell declared, "I am constantly troubled by the inability of the current Democratic Party to relate to everyday Floridians.  I can no longer remain in a party that does not represent my values."

Let us hope that one day we will have representation that looks at what is good for the Country instead of the Party.

Identity politics does not seem to be working so well for the Democrats. All three of the legislators who recently switched to Republican, two Florida state representatives and a California state senator, have been women. Two of them have been Hispanic and one Jewish.

I suspect we will be seeing more of these Democrats with common sense abandoning the woke Democrats as time goes on.
