Good Morning Everyone,
There were minor adjustments in the timing of this weekend's weather. Updated forecast details for Beaufort County have been
underlined below.
Cold Temperatures
We will continue to experience cold temperatures through the weekend and for most of next week, with forecasted daytime highs in the low 40s (windchills of upper 30s) and nighttime lows in the low 20s (windchills in the upper teens.)
- Monday (1/13) and Saturday (1/18) will be the warmest of our next 10 days.
Snow / Ice / Rain
Precipitation is now forecasted to arrive slightly earlier than previously forecasted. This will most likely begin as snow around 7pm Friday afternoon and transition to a combination of snow / ice / rain around midnight. This mixture is expected to continue through 8am Saturday morning as temperature range between 31 and 34 degrees (windchills of 27 to 31 degrees) through 8am.
- Forecast updates over the last 24 hours has trended towards a reduced amount of snow accumulation and an increase chance of ice.
- Our heaviest precipitation is forecasted to occur between 1am and 6am Saturday Morning

Most areas are forecasted to receive about 1/2 inch of snow with up to 1/10th of an inch of ice possible for some areas. However, these totals are based on forecasted temperatures that are near freezing. A temperature change of 2 degrees in either direction will change our forecasted accumulations.
Our temperatures are expected to be above 40 degrees (windchill of 34) by noon Saturday, with any accumulations that may occur melting during the afternoon day.
Reminders
We encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions to safely protect you family, homes, and pets from these freezing temperature over the coming days. Recommended precautions include:
- Utilize safe heating practices in your home. (Only use UL approved space heaters. Ensure heaters are at least 3 feet away from furniture and other combustible items. Make sure that you have working smoke alarms. Homes that utilize gas appliances should also have working carbon monoxide alarms as well.)
- Ensure exposed plumbing fixtures are wrapped to prevent freezing and familiarize yourselves with the location of your water shutoffs and / or water meter so that any leaks can quickly be shut off.
- Ensure that outside pets and livestock have adequate shelter to protect them from wind, rain, or frozen precipitation. Also ensure that they continue to have access to water that is not frozen.
- Please avoid driving between 8pm Friday night and 8am Saturday morning as our roadways, especially bridges and overpasses may be treacherous.
- Hazardous road conditions may continue through Saturday night for sections of shaded roadways that do not dry during the day.

Good morning,
We are monitoring the potential for wintry weather to impact Eastern North Carolina Friday night into Saturday. The latest briefing is attached and the next briefing will be sent by 4 PM this afternoon.
KEY MESSAGES
- Confidence is increasing that a low pressure system will bring a threat for some light wintry weather to Eastern North Carolina Friday Night into Saturday
- A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for everywhere except coastal Dare, coastal Hyde, Carteret, and Onslow Counties
- Ice amounts have increased and snow amounts have decreased across eastern NC
- Greatest impacts will likely be in the far northwest portion of the county warning area, which includes Martin, Pitt, Greene, and Lenoir Counties.
- Cold weather will persist into this weekend
- Precipitation type and amounts are still subject to change with future updates
