poll: populist AfD now Germany's most popular party as CDU support falls | Eastern NC Now

voters sour on CDU and leader Merz over its deal with the left

ENCNow

Prior to the recent German election, a majority of Germans told pollsters they preferred a coalition between the tradition conservative CDU/CSU and the populist nationalist anti-immigration Alternativ fur Deutschland (AfD).  The CDU/CSU finished in first place and the AfD second.  The left of center Social Democrats were a distant third, with their worst election result since the first Kaiser Wilhelm was on the throne of imperial Germany in 1887.

However, bowing to demands from the globalist leadership of the European Union (EU), CDU leader Friedrich Merz refused to negotiate with the AfD and instead sought to form a government with the Social Democrats.  He has bowed to all of the Social Democrats leftist demands and abandoned all of the CDU's campaign promises on the major issues in order to form that coalition.

A longtime leader of the classical liberal small government / low tax Free Democrats, Wolfgang Kubicki declared that "an AfD chancellor is closer than you think".  Kubicki observed that "The vast majority of Germans have recently voted right wing. Now, however, they threaten to get left wing politics.  That cannot go on much longer."

Merz' about face has led to a growing number of CDU party officials and elected officials openly abandoning the party.  Polls are now also showing the CDU's voters also abandoning the party and moving to the AfD.

The latest poll from the major pollster IPSOS now shows the AfD as Germany's most popular party for the first time in history, with the CDU/CSU falling to second place.

Meanwhile another poll by major German pollster FORSA finds the number of Germans who consider Merz fit to be chancellor shrinking.  In early March soon after the election, Merz had the confidence of 40% of Germans.  In a month, that has fallen to 32%, while 60% consider him unfit.

Over 60% of Germans voted for parties that called for a major crackdown on illegal immigration. Now thanks to the dishonest Merz, they will not get that crackdown. In fact, Merz' Social Democrat buddies want to make it easier for migrants to bring their relatives to Germany. Illegal immigration was the biggest issue with German voters. Merz and the CDU are betraying them.
