Electrric cars spontaneously combust and destroy yet another car carrying ship | Eastern NC Now

For the third time a car carrying ship has had to be abandoned due to the lithium batteries in electric vehicles spontaneously combusting and starting a fire that could not be put out. This ship in in the Pacific, and like the two earlier instances in the Atlantic, it had to be abandoned .

Lithium batteries that power electric vehicles are prone to spontaneously combust,  When they catch fire, their thermal runaway often causes nearby electric vehicle batteries to also catch fire.  They burn very hot, are hard to extinguish, and give off very toxic fumes.
