In Northern Ireland, the riots are now native vs. migrant, NOT Protestant vs. Catholic | Eastern NC Now

When one thinks of Northern Ireland, a first thought is often of "The Troubles", the period of many years of open conflict between Protestants and Catholics that included many riots and killings.  That fortunately seems to now be history as those two communities have found a way to mostly get along, but violent and fiery riots have just returned to Northern Ireland with a different set of players.

In the Northern Ireland city of Ballymena, 16% of the residents are now migrants from outside of Ireland.  When three migrants raped a teenaged Irish girl, the city exploded in violent protests and riots, which have now been going for three days.  Protestents and Catholics are together on this one.  They have had a bellyfull of migrants and want them gone.  The rape was the trigger but the unease with the migrants goes much deeper.

This was the second sexual attack in two weeks in Ballymena by migrants, this most recent one by gypsies. The riots have spread to nearby towns, and some British leaders are warning they could spread to other parts of the UK.
