Climate alarmists and their distortions on Great Barrier Reef and its coral | Eastern NC Now

No, the Great Barrier Reef is NOT dying

ENCNow

One of the dire predictions of the climate alarmist movement is that the coral reefs are all going to die.  Nevermind that coral, like climate itself, goes through cycles where it changes.  Now, Dr. Bjorn Lomborg of the think tank Copenhagen Consensus Center and former director of the Danish government's Environmental Assessment Institute, has an excellent article in the Wall Street Journal speaking facts that debunk the climate alarmist narrative, entitled "Reef Madness: a Baseless Coral Panic".

Responding to the climate alarmists' claims, Australian scientists started doing an annual survey of the coral of the Great Barrier Reef, that largest coral reef, by far, in the world, in 1986.  They have just completed their most recent annual survey.  Initially, they gave a report on 11 separate segments of the reef plus an overall assessment.  When they saw that the facts were not matching the climate alarmist predictions, they quit giving the overall assessment, but others could still do the math and find the overall result.

For the first few years, the coral was in a declining cycle, so these reports were trumpeted as proving the climate alarmists right.  But then the cycle reversed and the coral started growing again.  By 2021, the amount of live coral was greater than it had been when the studies began in 1986, and it continued growing even more in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Now the 2025 survey finds one of the 11 segments continues with record growth while the other ten have seen small declines.  That is enough to send the climate alarmists back to their gloom and doom screed.  Dr. Lomborg rips up their argument.

Meanwhile, the Washington Examiner has an excellent article "The Science of Climate Change is far from settled":

After Climategate, what thinking person would EVER believe a climate alarmist? The best way to tell if they are lying is to look to see if their lips are moving.
