Senate a government funding package in a 45-55 vote

Seven Republicans joined the Democrats to block the funding package which includes money for the Department of Homeland Security.

GOP Senators Budd, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, Ashley Moody, Rick Scott and Tommy Tuberville joined the Democrats.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune also voted no but this allowed him to bring the vote to the floor again.

But the defection of seven GOP lawmakers – Sens. Ted Budd, R-N.C., Ron Johnson, R-Wis., Mike Lee, R- Utah, Ashley Moody, R-Fla., Rand Paul, R-Ky., Rick Scott, R-Fla., and Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. – was an unexpected development on Thursday.

Must say this vote from Budd surprises me.  I really expected to see Tillis's name there not Budd.

There is too much pork barrel waste in that bill, but at the present time that is not the important issue. Illegal immigration is the big issue. Democrats are working to derail the efforts to remove illegal aliens from the country. If weak Republicans in Congress let them do that, it will kill GOP turnout in the midterm elections and hand Congress to the Democrats.ICE was given long term funding in the Big Beautiful Bill, so Republicans in Congress need to stand their ground.

Goven that most of the seven were immigration hawks, it looks like some Republicans think that too much was given away in the package.
