Hit and Run on Slatestone Road | Eastern NC Now

On October 31, 2013 at approximately 10:05 p.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a hit and run on Slatestone Road in Washington.

    On October 31, 2013 at approximately 10:05 p.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a hit and run on Slatestone Road in Washington. Deputies located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Slatestone Road and Highway 32 North.

    The suspect turned onto Highway 32 North and failed to stop for blue lights and siren. Deputy Jesse Walker began a vehicle pursuit and notified Communications of the vehicle’s direction of travel. The suspect vehicle was traveling approximately 60 mph during the pursuit. The suspect turned onto Old 97 Road and traveled to Swamp Road then turned right onto Highway 264 West. The suspect then turned onto Terra Ceia Road and drove to Gaylord Road in Pantego. The suspect traveled back to Old 97 Road and turned left toward Highway 32. The suspect then traveled South on Highway 32. Sgt. Michael Smiley was able to deploy a “stop sticks” tire deflation system on Highway 32 near Windley Canal Road. The suspect drove over the tire deflation system and all four tires on the suspect’s car were flattened. The suspect’s car began to slow down and came to a stop on Highway 32 near Church Lane.

    Deputies took the driver into custody and identified him as Henry Franklin Wallace, age 46, of Old 97 Road in Pantego. Wallace was charged with Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, Failure to Heed Light or Siren, and Possession of Cocaine. Wallace was transported to the Magistrate’s Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $16,500.00 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis. Wallace was also charged with two counts of Failure to Stop for a Stop sign, Left of Center, and Careless and Reckless. The North Carolina Highway Patrol also charged Wallace with Driving While Impaired. Wallace’s vehicle was seized pursuant to North Carolina’s “Run and You’re Done” law.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.
On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.
On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:

On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.
On April 25, 2024, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaleza Aneice Alexander on multiple drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins between December 6 th and December 9 th in the areas of Turkey Trot Rd., South Asbury Church Rd. and Magnolia School Rd. in Washington.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from concerned parents regarding a past incident that occurred at Bath Elementary School. I would like to assure the public that there is no current threat of school violence.
On Saturday, October 11th, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at 739 Cherry Rd, Washington NC for a 911 call reporting a male subject being shot.
On Sunday, September 21, 2025 at approximately 1900 hours, Washington Police Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street in reference to a possible shooting in progress.
On December 16 th the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Response Team along with officers from the Washington Police Department joined forces to arrest a subject wanted in Beaufort and Pitt County for ten outstanding warrants that included multiple felony charges.
