Harvey West resigns as 1st Congressional District Republican Party chairman | Eastern NC Now

vote on replacement next Saturday

ENCNow

Harvey West, Jr. has resigned as chairman of the First Congressional District Republican Party.  His seat will be filled by vote of the district executive committee Saturday in Williamston.  West has served as district GOP chairman for seven years.

West resigned after he became a target of Democrat attacks based on an incident when he was a Washington, NC police officer, for which a number of his fellow officers at the time privately said he was set up.  While West had never hidden this part of his past, it has only recently become cannon fodder for the Democrats.

Former Third Congressional District GOP Chairman Kim Cotton-West has accounced her candidacy to fill the vacancy.

With the new redistricting, Beaufort County has returned to the First District of which it had previously been part for many decades.
