student wins free speech case against Mecklenburg County NC Schools filed in federal court | Eastern NC Now

Schools admitted they were wrong and paid her $95,000

ENCNow

A high school student in Charlotte has, in effect, gotten her college paid for by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools after she sued them for a free speech violation and collected a $95,000 settlement for her lawsuit over it in federal court.  The school system acknowledged its wrongdoing in its treatment of her.

The plaintiff has painted a "school spirit rock", which is designed for students to paint messages on, with the message "Live Like Kirk" honoring Charlie Kirk.  The school accused her of "vandalism."
