Charles Bryan Houston, age 59, of Washington, NC, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, at ECU Health Beaufort Campus.

A visitation will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.

Bryan was born in Beaufort County on July 31, 1966, to the late Chester Belton Houston and Virginia Upton Houston. He graduated from Washington High School and went on to study Hospitality Management at East Carolina University. Bryan worked for Dyneema in Greenville, NC, as a Fiber Technician for over 20 years.

Bryan had many loves in his life, but none greater than his two sons. He cherished the time he spent with them and was incredibly proud of every accomplishment they achieved, no matter how small. Over the years, he was their jungle gym, taste tester for imaginary meals, master train track builder, monster truck carrier, boogie board balancer, video game spectator, and dedicated supporter of countless homemade YouTube videos.

As his sons grew, Bryan became their biggest fan-cheering loudly at games and even serving as an occasional "walk-on coach." He loved sharing his passion for sports with them and especially enjoyed taking them to ECU football, baseball, and basketball games.

Bryan was known for his spirited personality and love of sports. He often quoted favorite phrases such as "Cancel Christmas," "Win Baby Win," and "You can paint this one purple!" He enjoyed playing basketball and could often be found at the courts on 15th Street or participating in intramural games during his college years, where he earned the nickname "Bird" after Larry Bird.

He was an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels, ECU Pirates, New York Yankees, and Oakland Raiders, and he never missed a chance to share championship stats with rival fans. Bryan loved making people laugh and spending time with family and friends. Known for his lively dance moves and great sense of style, he always brought energy and joy wherever he went.

Bryan is survived by his two sons, Carter Houston and Carson Houston, both of Winterville, and the mother of his children, Currie Houston of Winterville. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many friends who supported Bryan over the past year, especially his neighbors Joi and Sandi, as well as his Dyneema teammates.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bryan Houston Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, NC 27889.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Houston family.
