German police union calls for tougher asylum, deportation and citizenship rules after attack | Eastern NC Now

Following a terrorist attack by a Muslim naturalized citizen, the German Police Union has published a formal letter to Chancellor Merz demanding that German laws on asylum, deportation, and citizenship be toughened.  The incident that triggered the demands occurred a few days ago in Berlin, when a 21-year old radicalized Muslim from Lebanon who is now a German citizen rammed a rented van into a Pride parade, killing one German and injuring dozens of others.  The Muslim perpetrator had been on the police terror watch list for months prior to the attack as a "high risk extremist" after he had previously been convicted of preparing a serious act of violence but placed on probation.

The police union demanded quick action by the government.  They demanded that German citizenship only be granted to migrants who proved they were fully integrated into German society, that judges power to prevent deportation of migrants convicted of crimes be restricted or eliminated, and that asylum protection to migrants be further restricted.

Leader of the opposition in the Bundestag (parliament), Alice Weidel of the populist nationalist anti-immigration Alternativ fur Deutschland,  enthusiastically supported the demands of the police union but suggested her party was the only one in parliament that would actually carry them out.  Weidel's party has led in national opinion polls as the most popular party in the country all year, and polls for the two state elections coming up next month suggest that they could win outright control of at least one of them and perhaps both.

Statistics show that illegal alien migrants commit a majority of violent crimes and sexual offenses in Germany and compose about half of the country's prison population.  They also comprise 56% of those receiving welfare payments, which are ironically called Bergergeld or "citizens money."
