Smithsonian is turning into a DSA propaganda arm
The increasingly "woke" Smithsonian history museum has come under increasing fire for its politicized approach to American history, distorting America's past to fit the far left "woke" narrative instead of presenting what actually happened. The latest to express disgust at today's Smithsonian is a great grandson of slaves himself and now a bishop and a published author, Bishop Earl Walker Jackson. Bishop Jackson accused those in charge of the Smithsonian of "ideological capture" for "anti-American indoctrination", pointing to the way the museum focuses on dividing everything by race, sex, and the like.

The left and other extremists try to distort history in the service of ideology. That quote above from George Orwell is hardly his only comment on the subject. He wrote about the distortion of history by authoritarians quite often.. In fact, here is a famous passage from his novel "1984":
