A Letter to My Time Capsule

Listed below are some of my observations that I think may be of interest 100 years from now, in the year 2126. I try not to be judgmental.

1.  One half of our jail cost results from the use of illegal drugs. We have about 90 people in our Beaufort County Jail.

2.  One half the cost of our Social Services Department is the result of the use of illegal drugs. The Beaufort County population is about 46,000 people. My estimate is that about 10,000 residents are receiving some kind of benefit. This does not include people who get MEDICAID.

3.  Our laws to control illegal drugs are permissive. They are not designed to stop the sale of illegal drugs.

4.  Naloxone, a drug used to interrupt (an illegal) drug overdose, is dispensed from vending machines and distributed by law enforcement and the Health Department.

5. The law excludes Naloxone users from arrest.

6.  Our school system fails to expose students to the US and State of North Carolina Constitutions and our founding heroes in a meaningful way.

7.  There is a use of computerized curriculum systems in the schools that teach liberal social concepts.

8.  There is an unusual amount of tattooing and body piercing.

9.  The currency is not monetized.

10.  The national government is borrowing two trillion dollars each year to continue the operations of the Federal Government. That is borrowing at the rate of more than 5,000 dollars for every man, woman and child in the United States.

11.  The average annual income for a family is about 55,000 dollars per year. With three people per household, the Federal Government is borrowing more than 15,000 dollars per household each year.

12.  Few government officials are willing to discuss Federal Government debt.

13.  Churches and religions fail to take public positions on anything.

14.  Legalized abortion is an issue that divides the public.

15.  I believe less than 5 percent of the households have vegetable or flower gardens.

16.  There is little money in circulation. Most commerce is done with credit cards. Some businesses do not accept cash.

17.  More than 20 percent of those who are available for work are employed by governments.

18.  As many as 10,000 Beaufort County residents may be using illegal drugs.

19.  Many people believe the use of marijuana and its related products are healthy.

20.  There is one store selling habit-forming drug paraphernalia for every 3,000 residents of Beaufort County.

21.  The passing grade for evaluating schools, on a scale of 1 to 100, is 40 points.

22.  Medical care is socialized by the Federal Government and is very expensive.

23.  Public schools no longer teach cursive writing.

24.  Public institutions such as the Beaufort County Community College promote lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other sexual behaviors known as LGBTQ+.

25.  The cell phone has become a status symbol and almost every person has one.

26.  The national debt is more than 40 trillion dollars. That is $119,000 for every person in the United States.
