Michigan county clerk reports 90% of voter registrations received are fraudulent | Eastern NC Now

There has been a lot of attention to the serious weaknesses in the process of casting ballots in our country such as lack of photo voter ID in many states, excessive mail-in voting, and unattended ballot drop boxes, but the lax voter registration process is also a huge vulnerability.  The experience of a county clerk in Michigan shows how much of a problem that has become.

Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini reports that 90% of voter registration forms received by his office are fraudulent.  They include deceased persons, fictional persons, non-citizens,, duplicates, and others.  In one case, one of his staff was handed 47 voter registration forms with the same voter's information.  Many clerks are not as thorough on weeding out the fraudulent registrations and they end up on voter rolls, where someone can vote in those names.

The problem is lax voter registration laws, that allow anyone to submit a signed voter registration form.  Even worse, in some states, voter registration can even be done online. The old practice where voters had to appear before an election official, provide ID and personal information, and sign in their presence, was a solid methodology to stop voter registration fraud, but this requirement has been abandoned.

Online registration as in California has allowed one woman to register and vote her dog, and a Pakistani man who had never even been to the US to register and vote in California.  It is the most fraud prone registration method.

These systems allow activist groups to pay untrained persons to go out and register voters and pay those persons per registration turned in.  That incentivizes them to make things up to get paid more.  This came to light with the nationwide scandal of the leftwing ACORN organization some years ago which was caught turning in thousands of fraudulent voter registrations across the country.  It can also be ideological like the Young Democrat leader in Virginia caught turning in stacks of voter registrations for dead people in his county.  He only got caught because the elections staffer who received them recognized one a a neighbor who she knew was dead so she checked out the others and they all were dead.
