Omen for US? Conservatives win Canada's British Columbia province for first time in 98 years | Eastern NC Now

Canada's Pacific cost province of British Columbia has not elected a Conservative government since 1928, but now they have come back to power in an upset landslide.  Is this an omen for the upcoming US election? The Conservatives ousted the socialist New Democrats who had governed the province for nine years.  The nationally governing center-left Liberals did not contest the election and backed the New Democrats.

At the dissolution of the provincial legislature, the Conservatives held 36 seats.  In this election they expanded that number to 61.  The New Democrats previously held 47 seats and saw that drop to 26.  The far left Green Party also won 2 seats.

The Conservatives campaigned on expanding natural gas production and on ending the unpopular carbon tax.

This follows an election two weeks earlier in the French speaking province of Quebec, where the nationalist Parti Quebeqois won power with a pledge to reduce the population of foreign migrants in the province by half. and to again pursue independence from Canada.  The party went into the election with only 7 seats and won 60.
