Comments for BREAKING: CNN Reports FOUR Broward County Deputies Waited Outside School As Children Were Massacred

So there were four armed officers outside the school. And none of them did anything, according to CNN. They instead waited for Coral Springs police to lead the charge inside.

You still have your rapier wit, and all your friendships.

Don't worry, I have patience. It is about the only thing left that has not deteriorated.

I have a reply to this. I just don't have the energy to write it right now.

My old high school has been repurposed as lofts which rent for between $1500 and $2600 per month. The building was built in the 1920s and closed as a school in in 1986 before it was reborn as a preservation-minded housing complex in 1998. The building and location contain many memories for me both good and bad. None were traumatic other than a couple of suspensions and failing Algebra twice. But regardless if they converted it to lofts or tore it down like we do everything else in Atlanta and built an office building, the location will always hold a special memory for me. Here is a tour from the Loft Website.

Just like the Guns, the building itself is not where the relevance lies. It lies in the hearts and minds of everyone who has a memory of that place. The cost to repurpose the school in Florida as anything other than a school will not change the memory of that location. It could well be used to provide proper counseling to those students.

Somewhere in everyone's life they must confront reality. My opinion is that the earlier one does that the better. Harsh as it may seem, it has worked throughout our history and the history of the world. Not recognizing reality has been responsible for untold tragedies that could have been prevented or avoided.

I agree on not tearing down the building. They might feel better if they felt safer.

While my comment may seem callus, I am trying to point out the fallacy of closing the barn door after the horse has escaped. I'll await more facts regarding the Deputy's actions or lack thereof.

I am not suggesting ignoring the trauma. What I am suggesting is individual student therapy with techniques and professional help that has proven to help in other trauma situations. Tearing down the building, trying to remove any physical reminder of the incident and group "Kum ba yahs" will not help. I don't think media exploitation of the students will help either. They must confront the reality of what happened and begin to deal with it as soon as possible. Fermentation and aging may work with distilled spirits but is does not work with traumatic events.

They must learn to process and channel the traumatic memories into a positive framework.

This Broward County Sheriff shamelessly operates on a plane of hypocrisy that is grand in scale.

There was once a long standing tradition: Cowards were lined up and shot in disgrace.

The practice began to stop in World War II. In my recollection, there were no executions for cowardice in the Korean War, but in the Vietnam War, officers were occasionally fragged for a myriad of supposed violations.

The American Armed forces today are an extremely brave bunch, very well trained. Training may be the key.

I will bet real money that not one of the Broward Cowards were former U.S. military.

Regarding B.T.'s meme, and TMc's cowardice claim, this video may exemplify both form America's current top intellectual wienie:

Headlines from Miami Herald:

"How will Douglas High students go back to class? There’s now a plan in place."
"The district has also announced a “voluntary campus orientation” with a variety of support services available for students and their families on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 2 to 5 p.m."

I am just guessing there will be armed guards at the Voluntary Campus Orientation.

As much as I dislike memes, I occasionally find one that is worthy of posting. I used to just throw it on the Occupy Democrats FB page and never go back to see comments, but then I had several friends who apparently follow ODFB send me nasty emails accusing me of being a some sort of Neanderthal. I would have thought they knew that by just being my friend. So far only one defriended me and she was an old girl friend that I personally defriended 50 years ago. She could not take a joke then and apparently can't take one now.

The Durham police stood by while CSA statue was destroyed. Then the lawyers were cowards dismissing the case.
