David Bowers | Eastern NC Now

Born: January 3, 1940, Died: February 7, 2014

    David Bowers, age 74, a resident of Egret Bay, Pamlico Plantation, Washington, NC, and formerly of Belhaven, NC and Georgetown, ME, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at Ridgewood Manor.

    There will be a celebration of his life at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, officiated by The Rev. Ray Souza. Interment will be in the Bowers family plot at Oakdale Cemetery. There will be a reception at the home following the interment and the family will receive friends at other times at the home.

    Mr. Bowers was born January 3, 1940 in Monterrey, Mexico son of the late Joseph Tayloe Bowers and Anna Mae Kirn Bowers. He was a graduate of Tulane University Mr. Bowers served in the US Air Force. He was President and CEO and later Chairman of Woodex Bearing Co. in Georgetown, ME for 31 years.

    Mr. Bowers was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Myatt Bowers and in 1994 they moved to Belhaven, NC. They recently moved to Pamlico Plantation. He was a Rotarian in Belhaven for 18 years, a member of the Down East Seniors Club and the Belhaven Yacht Club. Mr. Bowers was an avid sailor and cruiser and one-time boat builder.

    In addition to his wife, Mr. Bowers is survived by his brother, Joseph Tayloe Bowers, Jr. of Houston, TX and his sisters, Mary K. DeLurgio of La Cañada Flintridge, CA and Judy Reilly of La Crescenta, CA.
