    Tuesday, July 1, 2014       Aquatic Life of the Pamlico       2:00 pm

    Learn about the habits and life cycles of some of the aquatic creatures that live in the Pamlico River and Goose Creek. Meet at the visitor center.

    Wednesday, July 2, 2014       Fire Starting       2:00 pm

    Learn different methods of fire starting and fire building. Adult supervision required. This program is weather permitting. Meet in the campground at campsite #1.

    Tuesday, July 8, 2014       Goose Creek State Park Overview       2:00 pm

    We will have a power point presentation that will feature some of our wonderful natural communities and recreational opportunities. Meet at the visitor center.

    Wednesday, July 9, 2014       Wetlands       2:00 pm

    Learn more about the benefits of wetlands. See a hands-on demonstration of how wetlands work. And then watch a fun and informative Disney production on Wetlands (video is approximately 25 minutes long). Meet at the park visitor center.

    Friday, July 11, 2014       Movies with the Stars: The Goonies       9:00 pm

    Create your own adventure with your family by joining us for a special feature of The Goonies. We will be showing the movie in Flicker Field located across the street from our visitor center. Bring your own drinks, snacks, blankets, chairs and insect repellent.

    Sunday, July 13, 2014       Beginner Camping Experience       Anytime between 1:00 - 3:00 pm

    There will be s’mores and a full campsite displayed. Perfect for families interested in finding out more about camping and introducing their children to what it would look like to stay in a tent. This program is weather permitting. Meet in the campground at campsite #1.

    Tuesday, July 15, 2014       Discovery Room       2:00 pm

    Come see examples of many of the mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds that live in the different habitats at Goose Creek State Park. Meet in the visitor center.

    Wednesday, July 16, 2014       Moonlight Paddle       9:00 pm

    This kayaking trip is sure to give you a memory of a lifetime. We will be paddling through Goose Creek as the beautiful moon and stars reflect off the water. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Please call (252) 923-2191 for more information and to register.

    Friday, July 18, 2014       Movies with the Stars: Spiderwick Chronicles       9:00 pm

    Turn your creative side on while enjoying the mysterious and adventure packed movie, The Spiderwick Chronicles. This movie is great for people of all ages, and it can only get better by viewing it under the beautiful night sky. Bring your own drinks, snacks, blankets, chairs and insect repellent. We will be showing the movie in Flicker Field located across the street from our visitor center.

    Tuesday, July 29, 2014       Fire and the Longleaf Pine       2:00 pm

    We will show a video that will explore the nature of a very special habitat, the longleaf pine savanna with its amazing stories of biodiversity, interdependence and dependence on fire. We’ll also take a look at some of the equipment used on burn operations and some of the effects that fire has on the park. Meet in the visitor center.

RALEIGH: Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (NCDNCR) Secretary Reid Wilson celebrated Earth Day by visiting Goose Creek State Park in Washington.
Washington, N.C. – The inaugural Rivers East Advanced Manufacturing Academy took place at Pitt Community College on Friday, September 23rd.

The Rivers East Workforce Development Board has been awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant (NDWTG) in the amount of $275,000 to assist the employees of the QVC Rocky Mount Distribution Center that reside in the Rivers East region.
