Born: December 02, 1929, Died: February 22, 2015

Mrs. Gladys Mildred Warren Alligood, age 85, a resident of 5916 Slatestone Road, Washington, passed away peacefully Friday, February 20, 2015.

A graveside service, conducted by Marty Alligood, will be held Sunday, February 22 at 2 p.m. at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers are: Brad Alligood, Chad Alligood, Eugene Elks, John Peele, BB Glisson, and Terry Woolard.

Mrs. Alligood was born in Pitt County on December 2, 1929, to Mamie Harrison Warren and John Warren. On August 10, 1945, she married Theodore Alligood. Like many of the greatest generation, their courtship and marriage withstood his service to our country during World War II.

Mrs. Alligood spent the better portion of her adult life working on the farm with her husband. At the age of 60, Mrs. Alligood went to work at Wal-Mart in the fabric department. It was there that her love and knowledge of sewing earned her many friends and loyal customers. She retired with 20 years of service at the age of 80.

Mrs. Alligood found great happiness spending time with her family, repurposing found items long before it was cool to do so, and planting her garden of vegetables and flowers. Always fashionable, most who know her will recall her love of costume jewelry, hats and scarves. She was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ. She was also a member of the 76ers Home Extension Club.

In addition to her husband, Theodore Alligood, Mrs. Alligood is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice Rae Alligood Wingate and Leon Wingate of Bath; her granddaughter, Lynn Wingate of Bath; and the light of her life, her great grandson, Gray Wingate Lewis of Bath. She is also survived by her sisters, Dot Moate of Washington; Jean Woolard, of Plymouth; Rita Whitman of Cleveland, OH; and Brenda Peele of Williamston. She also leaves many nieces and nephews to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Alligood was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Nodie Staley, Irene Hudak, and Kenneth Warren.

In lieu of flowers memorials in her memory may be made to Pinetown Rescue & EMS, 7262 N. Boyd Road, Pinetown, NC 27865 or the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends at her home on Slatestone Road.

The family would like to thank Hospice Home Health, especially Valerie and Kathy, for the kindness and care they showed during Mrs. Alligood's illness.

Online condolences may be offered by visiting www.paulfuneralhome.com.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Alligood family.
