Severe weather threat this afternoon and evening | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

    Good Morning Everyone:

This afternoon could provide an opportunity for some severe weather that we all need to be aware of and make our fellow responders and counterparts: "Weather Aware". I have enclosed a graphic of what slight and marginal means when the National Weather service uses them in a forecast. There are no guarantees of what this afternoon will bring, however, this is typical weather for this time of year. Please report all weather related events to Curtis or I so we can pass the information on to NWS or as necessary contact other resources to assist our citizens.

Have a safe and weather aware day! Have a great Memorial Day weekend, but, please briefly pause and remember the sacrifice of those women and men of our Armed Forces that gave without question the greatest gift of all to we the living. They gave their lives so we can live and enjoy a level of freedom that is still envied in most of the world today.

    MHX partners,

There is a slight risk (15 %) of severe thunderstorms over eastern NC this afternoon and evening. The main threat will be damaging winds and large hail but an isolated tornado is possible as well. The best chance for severe weather will be between 2 pm and 8 pm.

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are possible this morning as a warm front moves north. More widespread coverage of showers and thunderstorms is likely this afternoon and evening as low pressure and a cold front move across the area.
