Bonner Ray Adams, age 65, a resident of Belhaven, NC passed away on July 31, 2015 at his home after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.

    Bonner Ray Adams, age 65, a resident of Belhaven, NC passed away on July 31, 2015 at his home after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.

    Mr. Adams was born in Beaufort County on June 22, 1950 to the late Linwood M. and Edna Hamlin Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hyacinth Elaine Adams.

    On July 5, 1970 he married the former Peggy Pittman, who survives, and they were married for 45 years. She was the love of his life. He is also survived by his daughter, Angie Adams Waters and husband, Marlin D. Waters, Jr. Other survivors include two brothers: Linwood M. Adams and his wife Stella of Pantego and Ricky G. Adams and his wife Polly of Pantego; two sisters: Nelda A. Fisher and her husband, Lloyd of Elizabeth City and Darlene A. Ball and her husband, Bud of Washington; three grandchildren: Carter Ray Gann, Malissa Ruth Waters and Marla Jean Waters and two aunts: Lydi Adams and Frances Adams of Belhaven; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Mr. Adams grew up working with his father, brothers and family in the logging business, Adams Logging Company. He enjoyed working with his family, camping, fishing, spending time with his family and being a part of his church family. He was a member and deacon at New Hope Church of Christ in Pantego, NC. Mr. Adams was one of many who worked to start the new church at New Hope Church of Christ in 2007.

    The family wishes to thank Dr. John Inzerillo, Nicole Davia, PA, Dr. William Tipton, Dr. Frederick Teixeira, the nurses and staff at the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, Vidant Internal Medicine, Vidant General Surgery and Vidant Beaufort Hospital for their loving care and support. Also, the family wishes to thank Mrs. Debbie Deal for her compassionate care, Terry, Ashley and Jennette for all their love, support and compassion that they gave during his treatments. We also thank Community Home Care & Hospice, Beth, Brandy and Pam. We also want to thank the staff at the Cancer Center for their love and support as well. He made many friends during this journey from Illinois to Georgia as he traveled for clinical trials.

    A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2015 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Reggie Braziel. Burial will follow in the Belhaven Community Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Hallas Boyd, Junior Joyner Tony Griekspoor, Marvin Smith, Elton Cutler and Casey Glancy. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Carawan, Billy Smithwick, Clifton Ray Cox, Wayne Marshall and Henry Corey.

    The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at the home. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889, where he made many special friends during his illness, and New Hope Church of Christ, 146 Swamp Road, Pantego, NC 27860.
