Governor McCrory Celebrates The North Carolina Department Of Military And Veterans Affairs | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory joined nearly 200 veterans and service members at the Seaboard Building on Salisbury Street today to celebrate the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of the newly created Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

"In my State of the State address nine months ago, I outlined our vision to improve how we care for and support our veterans and military through the creation of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs," Governor McCrory said. "Today is an important step in building on our accomplishments and reinforcing North Carolina's reputation as one of the most military and veteran friendly states in the country."

Led by retired U.S. Marine Corps Major General Cornell Wilson, the department was created to streamline all services and initiatives aimed at assisting our veterans, active duty military, military installations and communities, and military families. The department will focus on connecting veterans and military families with jobs and vital services, while protecting our military installations and the communities around them.

Also at the event, Governor McCrory presented a proclamation to Secretary Wilson proclaiming this week "Employ a Veteran Week." To read Governor McCrory's proclamation, visit https://governor.nc.gov/document/employ-veteran-week-1.

This event is part of a week of honoring veterans including the Carolinas Freedom Foundation breakfast in Charlotte, dedicating the Eastern North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro and a Veterans Day parade in Lexington.
