    Students can get certified to be a substance abuse counselor online. This certification can be a great step for people looking to enter the counseling field or to advance in their current position as nurses, mental health counselors and family service providers. A certified substance abuse counselor performs twelve core functions, including screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, report and record keeping, consultation with other professionals in regard to client treatment and services, and referral to treat addictive disorder or disease and help prevent relapse. Beverly Cates and Loretta Ebison will lead this online program. This course satisfies credits for education and ethics toward NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board. An additional practicum will still be required of students to achieve state certification. The program runs August 1 through November 20.


    Professional office assistants can advance or brush up on developments in their field by getting certified as an administrative office assistant. This program will specifically address working with the Windows 7 operating system, file management, and selected Microsoft Office 2013 application programs. Students will experience the commonly used features of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to understand these features' purpose, and use them with ease and confidence for the home and office. Upon the successful completion of the program, a students will receive a certificate. The program runs from August 1 through November 15.
