Conservative Club Honors Stacey Davis

BY: The Beaufort Observer Editorial Team

The Beaufort County Conservative Club passed a resolution honoring Republican Stacey Davis, an elected member of the Beaufort County School Board.

Club members believe Davis is due special recognition because of having suffered the vicious and unfounded attacks leveled at her by Carolyn Garris, the Chairman of the Beaufort County Republican Party, and North Carolina House Representative Keith Kidwell, both Registered Republicans. These attacks do not have the approval of the Beaufort County Republican Executive Committee.

Kidwell and Garris rushed to demand the resignation of Stacey Davis based on highly questionable behavior of and manipulation of the situation by the School Superintendent after Davis visited a school bus on a matter involving one of her children. Kidwell and Garris rushed to make public statements to newspaper and television outlets based on information provided to the public by the Beaufort County Schools Superintendent, Matthew Cheeseman.

Stacey Davis, since before her election in 2024, has been a thorn in Cheeseman’s flesh by asking pointed and accurate questions about school policy involving the closing of the Snowden School and various left-wing policies of the School Board. Some of Davis’s concerns involve the failure to teach cursive writing, purchased curriculum programs, new math, CRT (critical race theory), DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion), etc., etc., etc.

The Resolution of Support reads as follows:

Whereas: Mrs. Stacey Davis is an elected School Board Member in Beaufort County and a single mother with 3 children,

Whereas: Mrs. Davis has been a lonely voice for conservative values on the School Board,

Whereas: Mrs. Davis has bravely stood up for parents and children against a leftist School Board and Superintendent Matthew Cheeseman,

Whereas: Superintendent Cheeseman publicly attacked Mrs. Davis, the strongest obstacle to his leftist goals, using a school bus video on September 12, 2025,

Whereas: the video was edited and accompanied by a questionable narrative to embarrass Mrs. Davis,

Whereas: the District Attorney informed the parties that there was no prosecutorial crime committed before the video was aired on local TV,

Whereas: the edited video was sent to a local news station without School Board consent,

Whereas: the actions of the Superintendent seem to be purely an attempt to discredit his most powerful adversary on the School Board,

Whereas: Representative Keith Kidwell and Beaufort County Republican Party Chairman Carolyn Garris also attacked Mrs. Davis with demands for her resignation after knowing the District Attorney had found no crime to prosecute,

Whereas: Mrs. Davis’ opponent was promoted in the Republican Primary,

Whereas:  Representative Kidwell and Chairwoman Garris likely attacked Mrs. Davis to have her primary opponent installed in her seat after her resignation,

Whereas: these vicious political attacks have caused Mrs. Davis and her children immeasurable harm,

Now Therefore Be It Resolved: The Beaufort County Conservative Club condemns the actions of Superintendent Cheeseman, Representative Kidwell and Chairwoman Garris. The Conservative Club continues to fully support School Board Member Stacey Davis and her patriotic fight to save our schools. If our School Board was occupied by 8 other members with Davis’s bravery and resolve, our schools would be in the condition parents expect.

The issue of Mrs. Davis became a hot issue when she was recruited to run against Democrat Mac Hodges by the Conservative Club without the blessing of the Beaufort County Republican Party. Registered Republicans may register and run for any office without the blessing of the Republican Party on the County, State or Federal level. However, many Republican Party officers and elected officials believe, by virtue of their position, they are ordained to dictate to and use the apparent influence of their position to dictate to all other Republicans. One of the things that has ruined the Democrat Party is their similar idea of political dictatorship.

Beaufort County Republicans are split between a RINO (Republican In Name Only) like minority in leadership positions and Beaufort County voters who vote overwhelmingly MAGA conservative. Randy Walker, Frankie Waters, Carolyn Walker, Daniel Hudson, TW Allen, Donald Shreve, and Terry Williams are registered Republicans who regularly vote with and like Democrats. Witness Frankie Waters and Randy Walker who vote with Democrats Jerry Langley and Ed booth to keep Frankie Waters as Chairman of the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners.

The Conservative Club seeks conservative candidates to run for all seats in the 2026 elections. Registration to run begins December 1 and ends on December 19th of 2025.

Van Zant: You are right, Charles Hickman, and now Steve Rader have been excellent editions to the school board.

Both of these of these outstanding elected leaders would make constructive and county commissioners, as I am always searching for a way to supplant both the Democratic Socialists and the RINO in my sphere of government.

But first, we need a far better educated public; that is our Republic's top priority.

Van Zant: The GOP Executive Committee has more Real Republicans this year than it has had in many decades; the problem is still the leadership, which got in by the slimmest of margins.

Some of us still hold out hope, and yes, there must be accountability.

JV: Concerning the Executive Committee being in the dark, that IS very concerning. So far, this new Republican Executive Committee has been severely marginalized by the insiders. The insiders should be punished for their overreaching the bounds of legitimate duties and powers and infringing on the powers and duties of the Executive Committee. We can all see the things they have done in the name of the Party without Executive Committee approval. Executive Committee members should be interested in what they have done with Executive Committee money.

It is unfortunate that the manipulators have postponed any "showdown" on their indiscretions until the meat of election season. I have been told they have not met in months. Do they think they should not be accountable? I suppose so. Operating like that is not appropriate, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was entirely on purpose. That is real arrogance.

In recent years the state Republican party has been a poor example to follow. Lately the Beaufort County Republican Party is in the running for even exceeding them in depravity.

JV: Follow the money; it absolutely makes a difference when understanding the RINO.

I strongly urge members of the Executive Committee to please consider holding an emergency meeting to address issues of unauthorized financial transactions and party disloyalty. "Infighting" is what they want and we ain't giving it to 'em. If they want to be stupid, they've got to be tough.

There is substantial probable cause to be bring up charges on both accounts of what I've listed above. The shenaniganry can stop and will stop if the people continue to find out what these sick bastards have done with OUR money.

The people have a right to know what's being done and has been done with their money. There's a problem when the people CAN'T find out what's been done with their money.

CV: Thanks CV. I had heard that Candidate Davis was a current teacher. Since I am a reluctant authority on Conflict of Interest, if that had been case, it would have been an untenable position for Candidate Davis to possibly be elected without having the capability to vote on any issues.

Stan, she is a retired teacher, and from what I hear was recruited by Carolyn Walker, the head cheerleader for Superintendent Cheeseman on the school board. One particular reason that a retired school teacher would be a bad fit for a school board is that all of her career, she would have looked at the superintendent as the top of her food chain, and so would likely continue to do so as a board member. In fact as a board member, the superintendent would be her employee. That is far from the best situation if we want to have a school board that looks out primarily for the parents and taxpayers.

CV and RH: Steve Rader and Charles Hickman both have pretty impressive resumes. Just looking at the Republican Party resume part, I know that both are former Republican Party District Chairmen. There's plenty more. I know that off the top of my head. I wonder just what could these self-proclaimed "true Republicans" have against them.
