Beaufort County Schools Partners with Beaufort CCC for Firefighter Programs | Eastern NC Now

The new program works better with the schedules of high school students to prepare them for volunteer or professional firefighting.

    WASHINGTON, N.C.     Beaufort County Community College's fire training program will partner with Beaufort County Schools starting at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year to offer firefighter training to high school juniors and seniors. The program is offered through Career & College Promise Workforce Pathways, meaning that it is free to students. Beaufort CCC will provide all necessary equipment.

    The fire program will offer a firefighting academy during first period on the campus of Northside High School. This program will be open to juniors and seniors. Students who finish the program will receive N.C. Firefighter Certification at completion. They can then volunteer at age 16 with a department, but upon turning 18 they can apply to work full-time at a department.

    The program will also partner with Washington High School to offer two academies, one during the fall and one during the spring. These academies will be held at Beaufort CCC's campus during first and second periods. They will be open to not only Washington High School seniors, but also private school seniors, home school seniors, and anyone who wishes to achieve their N.C. Firefighter Certification.

    The program came through interest from high school students who desired to take evening firefighter classes at Beaufort CCC but expressing that a daytime program would work better with their program.


    Parents and students can reach out to their counselor to sign up for these programs. These are great opportunities to enter the fire service through either a rewarding paid or volunteer career.

    Career & College Promise offers both college credit and workforce certification programs to local high school juniors and seniors.
