Bill Includes Airport Security Reform and Measures To Decrease Passenger Wait Times


    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) applauded the Senate's passage of legislation reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The bill now heads to the President's desk.

  • "I am pleased the Senate could come together and pass bipartisan legislation that takes needed steps to strengthen security at American airports, and also aims to decrease the long wait times for passengers going through TSA checkpoints."

    The legislation, which extends authorization of the FAA until September 30, 2017, also does the following:

  • Implements measures to address cybersecurity risks to the aviation system
  • Strengthens mental health screening for pilots
  • Implements measures to expand the TSA PreCheck program and optimize security checkpoints to reduce wait times at airports across the United States
  • Strengthens security for foreign airports serving the United States
  • Bolsters security standards for flights headed to the United States from high risk airports
  • Increases employee vetting standards to mitigate insider threat to aviation security
