On Friday evening, September 29, 2017 Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to the armed robbery of the White Post Store on Hwy 92 in Bath

    On Friday evening, September 29, 2017 Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to the armed robbery of the White Post Store on Hwy 92 in Bath. The clerk on duty at the time of the robbery told Deputies an unknown white male entered the store just before closing, pointed a gun at her and demanded money. The suspect who was in the store for less than 2 minutes took an undetermined amount of cash fled on foot in an unknown direction.

    With very little evidence pointing to the identity of the suspect, the case went unsolved for almost 2 months. On or about November 21, 2017 Beaufort County Sheriff's Investigators received a tip on the suspect's identity. Acting on that tip members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Criminal Investigations Units conducted surveillance on the suspect and 3 other associates. While conducting surveillance Investigators were able to arrest the suspect and one of his associates for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

    During interviews with the other 2 associates, Investigators gained enough evidence to charge Christopher Paul Dempsey Jr, age 28 of Washington with 1 count of Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon, 1 count of Conspiracy, and 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Dempsey was ordered held on a $51,000.00 secured bond. Crysta Lyann Lusk, age 24, Gene Kelly Foster Jr. age 40 and Kathy Darlene Davidson, age 45 were all charged with 1 count each of Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy. Lusk, Davidson and Foster were all held on a $15,000.00 secured bond.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.
On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.
On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:

On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.
On April 25, 2024, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaleza Aneice Alexander on multiple drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins between December 6 th and December 9 th in the areas of Turkey Trot Rd., South Asbury Church Rd. and Magnolia School Rd. in Washington.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from concerned parents regarding a past incident that occurred at Bath Elementary School. I would like to assure the public that there is no current threat of school violence.
On Saturday, October 11th, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at 739 Cherry Rd, Washington NC for a 911 call reporting a male subject being shot.
On Sunday, September 21, 2025 at approximately 1900 hours, Washington Police Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street in reference to a possible shooting in progress.
On December 16 th the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Response Team along with officers from the Washington Police Department joined forces to arrest a subject wanted in Beaufort and Pitt County for ten outstanding warrants that included multiple felony charges.
