Mr. Thomas Gillan Miller died February 17, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Tom was born to General William E. Miller, US Army, and Sarah Frances Gillan Miller in Harrisburg, PA on September 8, 1943. Tom grew up in Camp Hill, PA and after graduating from high school he attended Penn State University where his fraternity brothers nicknamed him "Blimp". Tom was elected president of his freshman and sophomore classes; however, when his social life began to interfere with his grades, he elected to transfer to Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.

Tom fondly remembered his time at Penn State and remained a stalwart fan of the Nittany Lions his whole life. While at Dickinson, he met and married his wife, Edith Young Chadwick. After graduation Tom was hired by the Sheraton Hotel Corporation in operations management and went on to manage properties in Providence, RI, Washington, DC, Fort Worth, TX, and Cincinnati, OH. He then returned to Harrisburg, PA and became CEO of the AAA Central Penn Auto Club. Tom and Edie made many close friends while living in Hershey, Camp Hill, Upper Allen Township, Mechanicsburg, Harrisburg, and Mount Gretna, PA. After 32 years, Tom and Edie retired and moved to Washington, NC where they continued to be active volunteers in the community. Tom served as Commander of the Pamlico Sail and Power Squadron and ran the Washington Farmer's Market.

Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edie; daughter Meredith Gillan Miller and her husband Daniel Patrick Croghan of Kailua, HI; son Chadwick Thomas Miller and his wife JoAnn Glukowski Miller of Brighton, MI; grandchildren Kaila Nicole Miller, Harrison Chadwick Miller, Gillan Renee Croghan, and step-grandchildren Riley Anthony Croghan and Marie Christine Croghan. Services will be private.

Donations in Tom's honor may be made to Vidant Hospital, the Pamlico Sail and Power Squadron, or the charity of your choice.
