TMc: ... & The Pursuit of Property Happiness | Eastern North Carolina Now

Why did Jefferson change the word in the rough draft?

Happiness is an abstract emotion and property is a concrete measurable commodity. Basically Jefferson is promising nothing of measurable value... smart politician.

A better question might be why I would change the wording? I would give every citizen a "participation trophy" since the average guy will end his days with very little property and unhappy with the 1% who own 40% of such. Even those on welfare can be happy.

In North Carolina, the Vanderbilts sold 87,000 acres of Biltmore Estates for Pisgah National Forest after new tax laws were passed. The government makes property owners unhappy with taxes.

Conclusion: The Declaration of Independence ended English rule. The King would be unhappy with loss of property but could be happy with something else. The new Government would be pursuing huge properties in Alaska and Louisiana and Texas but the average guy would have a small farm.

Gen. George Washington became a billionaire (inflation factor adjustment) while the average soldier got a "thanks for your service". The rich pursue land and the poor happiness. Everybody gets something.

I'm glad that your relief came on the heals of such a great discovery. I need more introspection.

I have long know that the left side of my brain controls my directions, and I need to well establish the right while building on the left-side well wisdom.

According to the theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance, each side of the brain controls different types of thinking. ... For example, a person who is "left-brained" is often said to be more logical, analytical, and objective. A person who is "right-brained" is said to be more intuitive, thoughtful, and subjective.
