    Mr. Clifton James "C.J." Coward, Jr., age 70, a resident of Washington, NC died Friday June 22, 2018 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday June 24, 2018 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday June 23, 2018 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

    Mr. C.J. was born in Beaufort County on May 28, 1948 son of the late Clifton James Coward, Sr. and the late Elsie Belle Oakley Coward. He attended Beaufort County Community College. On March 15, 1970 he married the former Lola Mae Woolard who survives. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. C.J., along with his wife was owner/operator of Local Crafts located in the Wilmar community of Vanceboro. He was a member of First Church of Christ and a former member of Chocowinity Volunteer Fire Department.

    Surviving along with his wife Lola of the home are two daughters: Lynn Coward of Washington and Kylie Carter and her husband Richard of Vanceboro; a sister: Christine Cox of Ayden and two grandchildren, who were the apple of C.J.'s eye, Lucas Carter and Lily Carter. He was predeceased along with his parents by a sister: Shirley Coward.
