Civitas may have been the target of a political scam | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: Our friends at Civitas had a bit of a problem with some entity who wished to use their good name to robo-call folks about issues that are not pertinent to the real John W. Pope Civitas Institute. We're just lending a hand here in helping get this word out. We're here to help.

Press Release:

Dear Friend,

I wanted to inform you that automated phone calls sent out repeatedly over the past week have nothing to do with The Civitas Institute. We have been the victim of either a very bad mistake or a malicious act.

Our phone number has been listed on caller ID as the source of a call that, when it connects, leaves information concerning a State Assemblyman in New York. We have absolutely no connection with these calls, and we are working urgently to find out how this happened and who is behind it.

We have contacted the assemblyman's office and requested his staff's assistance in stopping the calls. These calls are being done repeatedly across North Carolina, and we have filed a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General, who has jurisdiction over these types of calls. We are also taking other steps to assess the extent of the problem and find out what more we can do.

We offer our deepest apology if you have been harassed by these calls. We value your support immensely, and we will continue to pursue all avenues available to us to get these calls stopped immediately.

Please help us by clicking on this link [6]http://www.nccivitas.org/robocall/ if you have received one of these calls. Let us know the date and time, if you answered, and if there was a message of any kind. Any other information you can provide will be helpful. If you receive a message, please save it for possible use against whoever is conducting this effort.

Thank you for your patience as we solve this problem. Please be assured that you have our sincere thanks for your past and future support, and that we will expend every effort to make sure nothing like this happens again.
