    Texas and other States allow the sale of inspected feral hog meat. Many food banks welcome donations. Recycling pigs may become big business. Surely, hunters do not leave dead pigs in the field. And hopefully hunters are not transporting herds for a fun year-round no holds barred sport.

    The business side of the imported problem includes guns, ammo, traps, feed, and paid hunts.

    Conclusion: How Did Wild Pigs Get Here?

    Pigs were first introduced in the 1500's to the southeastern U.S. by Spanish Explorer, Hernando DeSoto. In the centuries following European exploration and colonization of the eastern U.S., free-range livestock and escapes from enclosures resulted in wild pig populations and promoted their spread.

    In the early 1900's, Eurasian or Russian wild boar were introduced into portions of the United States.

    The pigs and boars cross-bred to produce today's feral hogs.
