    Mr. Allen Holland Bateman, Jr., age 64, of Washington, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

    A Celebration of his Life will be held for family and close friends at 12 Noon, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the home of his brother, Jim Bateman, 119 Riverview Drive, Pamlico Plantation, Washington.

    Mr. Bateman was born in Beaufort County on August 28, 1954. He was the son of Julia Rebecca "Becky" Elks Bateman and the late Allen Holland Bateman, Sr. Mr. Bateman farmed for many years before going back to school to get his teaching degree. He taught in many local schools and retiring from P.S. Jones Middle School. Mr. Bateman ran the Snack Bar and Al's Pizza in Belhaven for several years. He was a member of the ECU Pirate Club and past member of the Pinetown Ruritan Club. In his spare time, Mr. Bateman enjoyed gardening and built greenhouses at each school where he taught.

    Mr. Bateman is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Boyd Bateman; children, Sarah Bateman Whitfield, Mary Bateman Moon, Samuel Allen Bateman, Rachel Bateman House; grandchildren, Mayah, Shawn, Devin, Mathew, Natalie, Nathan, Summer, Austin, Eva, Jasper Luke; his mother, Becky Bateman; brother, Jim Bateman; and sister, Bettye Bateman.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the P.S. Jones Middle School Garden Club, 4105 Market Street Extension, Washington, N.C. 27889.
