On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, Beaufort County's Health Department received notice from the 'State Lab that two individuals tested positive' for the Coronavirus. These are the first two cases to date discovered in Beaufort County.

Tuesday evening, the Beaufort County Commissioners were alerted by email of this event by County Manager Brian Alligood, as stated completely here:

  • The County Health Department has received notice from the State Lab that two individuals tested by the Department yesterday have been confirmed positive for COVID-19. One is a known contact with a positive individual from another county. The second is still being investigated to determine if it is from a known contact or from community spread. Both individuals are self-isolating at home.
  • The Health Department is conducting contact tracing of the positive individuals to notify any close contacts so they can self-monitor for symptoms.
  • We have been anticipating this and it is not a cause for panic. Everyone is reminded to continue social distancing and the use of proper hygiene. Also as you may have heard, the Governor stated in a conference call today that he anticipates all 100 counties will have a positive case by the end of the week.

It was only a matter of time before the Coronavirus came knocking on Beaufort County's door. What is important is that Beaufort County's citizens remain calm, understanding that 'this too shall pass'.
