    Monument Avenue Historic District in Richmond, VA was one of my favorite places. In 2007, the American Planning Association named Monument Avenue one of the 10 great streets in the country.

    The Avenue was conceived during a site search for a memorial for Robert E. Lee after Lee's death in 1870. Lee was not only a great Virginian, he was a great American.

    The present day radical Virginia governor has vowed to remove the Lee statue. A mob of rabble tore down the Jeff Davis statue this month. Removal is pending for the Jackson statue. That would leave only three more statues on Memorial Ave.

    I remember going to see the Arthur Ashe Monument in 1996. I didn't like the design very much but never questioned it belonging there.

    I remember pulling for the classy Ashe over the brat Conners in the 1975 Wimbledon final in 1975. Incredibly, the woke Marxist crowd now labels me as a racist white supremacist.

    All this madness will in no way unite us. It will divide us beyond all hope.
