Howard "Tom" Hodges | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Mr. Howard "Tom" or "Pops" Hodges, age 85, a resident of Pine Lane, Rosedale, Washington, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

    Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington, conducted by Pastor Darren Walker.

    Mr. Hodges was born in Grimesland on August 28, 1934. He was the son of the late Furnie Mayhew Hodges and Louise Bates Hodges. Mr. Hodges graduated from Grimesland High School and received his Electrical Certification from Beaufort County Community College. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hodges worked at National Spinning and later retired from Burroughs Wellcome in Greenville. After retirement, he picked up cars for Moore Motor Company. Mr. Hodges was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, reading, working sudoku puzzles and watching Fox News.

    On July 2, 1958, Mr. Hodges married the former Janice Hardy, who survives.

    Mr. Hodges is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice of the home; three daughters, Tammy H. Hodges of Washington, Kimberly H. Losito of Chocowinity/North Myrtle Beach, SC and Wanda H. Hickman of North Wilkesboro; six grandchildren, Steven K. and Anna Frances Hodges, Brian C. and Lauren Hodges, Rebecca F. Hodges, James Hickman, Kaitlin Hickman and Ashley Hickman Hoffman; two great grandchildren, Everson K. Hodges and Patrick James Hodges; and eight nieces and nephews.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by a brother, Wayland F. "Doc" Hodges; a cousin (who was like a brother) Ray Hodges; and son-in-law, H. Keith Hodges.

    The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Tammy H. Hodges, 216 Holly Drive, Tranters Creek Estates, Washington and following the service at the graveside.

    Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, 901 N. Bonner Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
