Biden offshore wind projects threaten fisheries and environment | Eastern NC Now

 

It is not just the taxpayers and electric ratepayers who will take it on the chin from Biden's green new deal offshore wind turbine subsidies, but also the commercial fishermen and the marine ecosystems.  Endangered species will become more endangered from this "environmental" initiative.  The Biden scheme will give mostly foreign offshore wind farm developers a fifty percent subsidy for the cost of construction.

 

The New York Daily News has published an article on the enormous threat these offshore wind turbines pose to the marine ecosystems and to east coast fisheries, which are some of the richest in the world.  The endangered Right Whales are among those threatened by these projects.

 

 

Until now, the Department of the Interior has enforced the provisions of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act which prohibit wind turbines if they interfere with fishing,, but BIden appointees have issued a new memo that they are now disregarding that law.  Already, the Biden regime has approved the Vineyard Wind project off Massachusetts even though it had previously been rejected due to adverse impact on fisheries and endangered species.

 

The billions that taxpayers will have to squander on this boondoggle for construction subsidies is bad enough, but electric ratepayers will also be hit hard.  For example, the Long Island Power Authority has just contracted for offshore wind power with foreign operator Orstead from its new Southfork Wind Project off of Long Island at a wholesate rate of $160 per Kilowatt hour beginning in 2023 and rising to $235 per Kilowatt hour in 20 years.  The present wholesale cost of electricity on Long Island is $35 per Kilowatt hour.
