Texas classifies sexual reassignment surgery for minors as child abuse | Eastern NC Now
Governor Abbott requested ruling
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has ruled that doing sex reassignment surgery on a minor child constitutes child abuse under Texas law. The ruling was made at the request of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Under the ruling, anyone aware of a child sex reassignment surgery is required to report it as child abuse, and the state can take action against those responsible.
This makes perfect sense. Children can be harmed for the rest of their lives by this irreversible surgery. Children, by law, cannot consent to sexual intercourse, not can their parents consent for them, so why should either by allowed to consent to the far more drastic sex reassignment surgery?
This ruling should be expanded to also include chemical sex reassignment therapy, such as puberty blockers, which are dangerous and can have dire medical consequences.
