Johnson's party to get challenge from right in special election | Eastern NC Now

true conservatives are abandoning Boris Johnson

ENCNow

Boris Johnson's increasingly leftward tilt on a variety of issues has crashed his party's poll numbers especially after a large tax increase, but also from many Brits raising questions about his "green" net zero (on CO2) policies.  Now Johnson's withering party is about to get a serious challenge from the right in an upcoming by-election (special election) for parliament.

Former member of the EU parliament representing the Brexit Party Richard Tice, who now heads the UK's new Reform Party has announced his candidacy for parliament in the by-election for the Old Bexley and Sidcup constituency, which is open due to the death of its former MP.  Tice is openly challenging Johnson's green agenda, which he calls "net stupid", as well as Johnson's nanny state policies on Covid and his tax increases.  Tice is demanding a referendum of the British people on Johnson's green agenda.  Recent polls have found that the British people overwhelmingly want such a referendum.

Old Bexley and Sidcup has always elected a Conservative Party MP since the constituency was created.  While it would be a long shot for Tice to win the seat, a strong showing will be a kick in the pants to Johnson and will give momentum for the Reform Party.  The Reform Party is now running at 10% nationwide in the polls to the Conservatives 33%.
