White House endorsed project loses in landslide

ENCNow

Maine voters on Tuesday resoundingly voted down a major "clean energy" project that was endorsed by the White House.  Only 40% voted in favor of the project while 60% voted against it.  The project was a high capacity transmission line from Canada, and opposition to it was based both on its high cost and on its despoiling Maine's environment.

This vote shows the limited political appeal of climate alarmism.  As polling has shown repeatedly, even those who believe the climate alarmist narrative are not willing to spend very much to fight global warming. Those who don't buy into the narrative do not want to throw money away on such things. Then there are the real environmentalist who value things like wildlife habitat and natural beauty and oppose deforestation for wind turbines, solar farms, transmission lines and the like.

In this case the actual power was to be cheap and reliable hydro power, not the much more controversial wind and solar but it was the transmission line itself that caused the public to reject it.
